Born in Germany and raised in south London, viral sensation Arlissa is inspired by Prince and likened to vocalists from Florence Welch to Whitney Houston, Arlissa’s powerhouse voice won fans early on; an appearance on the BBC Sound Of 2013 poll alongside Laura Mvula, Haim, AlunaGeorge, The Weeknd and Chvrches seemed likely to make her an overnight star.
But Arlissa did the unexpected, and didn’t rush into stardom.
After collaborating with the iconic rapper Nas on ‘Hard To Love Somebody’ and writing ‘Spring Day’ for BTS, the song that helped the K-Pop group break into the US charts, Arlissa was ready to rebuild on her own terms.
Wanting longtime fans to be able to engage with her new music, Arlissa posted an acoustic version of her heartfelt song ‘Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie’ to Facebook. Melodically rich, lyrically direct, vocally mighty – Arlissa strikes a chord in the purest form, and to date it has racked up an astounding 45 million views on Facebook alone, along with a further 3m streams on Spotify and 4m on YouTube.
2018 has seen Arlissa release a Jonas Blue remix of 'Hearts Ain't Gonna Lie' and now 'We Won't Move', taken from the original motion picture soundtrack The Hate U Give.
